Plant Name:
Creeping Charlie, Ground Ivy
Latin Name:
Glechoma hederacea
Plant Type:
Vine
About
Ground Ivy contains bioactive volatile oils, including terpenoids and pulegone; these are responsible for the characteristic “minty” odor and taste of plants in the mint family. Pulegone is a carcinogen that causes hepatic carcinomas, pulmonary metaplasia, and other neoplasms on oral administration in rodents and should be avoided with tortoises.
